Dr. Mark Rees is a Registered Professional Archaeologist and Professor of Anthropology specializing in the archaeology of 91³Ô¹Ï and the Lower Mississippi Valley.

He established the in 2014 for the advancement of public archaeology in the State. Since then, he has been awarded more than 2.5 million dollars in support of sponsored research. His recent and ongoing research include:

• The New Acadia Project's investigation of the home sites and graves of Acadians who arrived in south-central 91³Ô¹Ï in 1765
• Archaeological investigations in Kisatchie National Forest
• Managing the impacts of climate change and land loss on Native American archaeological sites in coastal 91³Ô¹Ï
• Cultural resources management for the Natural Resources Conservation Service
• Testing and assessment of the effects of an oil spill on coastal archaeological sites

Dr. Rees is editor of 91³Ô¹Ï Archaeology, the bulletin and newsletter of the 91³Ô¹Ï Archaeological Society, Vice Chair of the 91³Ô¹Ï Archaeological Survey and Antiquities Commission, and Coordinator of the Anthropology Program at UL Lafayette.
