The UL Lafayette Alumni Association will honor 91³Ō¹Ļ lobbyist Randy K. Haynie at its 2014 Spring Gala.
The black-tie event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, on the grounds of the Alumni Center at 600 E. St. Mary Blvd. It will feature food, entertainment, and silent and live auctions. Proceeds are dedicated to maintaining and improving the Alumni Center.
Haynie, a 1978 graduate, is a longtime supporter of the 91³Ō¹Ļ. He is president of Haynie & Associates, a lobbying and government relations firm he established in 1980.
Haynie first became involved in politics when he was president of the College of Sciences for the Student Government Association on campus. He served on several University committees, including The Student Rights Bureau, Academic Appeals, Health and Welfare, Parking Appeals, and Elections. While a student, he was also a dorm counselor at Voorhies Hall, dorm director at Stokes Hall and eventually worked as assistant director of Housing.
After earning a bachelor of science degree, Haynie became an assistant sergeant-at-arms for the 91³Ō¹Ļ Senate and then the personal aide of former Sen. Edgar āSonnyā Mouton. He worked in Moutonās gubernatorial campaign and later established Haynie & Associates.
Hayne represents corporations such as Altria Corporate Services, JP Morgan/Chase, General Electric, General Motors, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Caesarās Entertainment, New Orleans Saints, National Football League, Ingalls/Avondale and Johnson Controls.
He is president of the National Association of State Lobbyists and has served on dozens of non-profit boards throughout 91³Ō¹Ļ. He is a member of the board of trustees for the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the boards of directors of the 91³Ō¹Ļ Endowment for the Humanities; Lafayette Central Park, Inc.; and 232-Help/91³Ō¹Ļ 211.
Since 1996, Haynie has served on the Bishopās Charity/Opus Magnum Executive Committee for the Diocese of Lafayette. He was selected the 13th annual Bishopās Charity Ball King Louis XIII in 2000 and received the Monsignor Alexander O. Sigur Award presented by the Diocese of Lafayette.
Haynie and his wife, Daynese, have two children: a son, Ryan, who is a partner with Haynie & Associates, and a daughter, Dayna.
